This piece is my version of Utagawa Yoshifuji's The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō: The Bewitched Cat of Okabe ("Gojūsan tsugi no uchi neko no ayashi'). “Cat Monster” 2019 is made of hand-cut and layered Baltic birch wood painted with gauche and acrylic paint, roughly 48” wide. Prints were made by high dpi scanning each piece individually, and digitally assembled in photoshop to replicate the finished piece (due to it’s size and dimension photographing is not ideal).
